Generation Z is facing challenges in their sex lives due to “home-blocking”. Living at home is having a big impact on their sexual experiences.

A study by Bumble’s 2023 Sex Index found that 65% of single people born between 1997 and 2012 have reported that their sex lives are influenced by their living conditions.

Many members of Gen Z, particularly those in their early 20s, are choosing to live with their parents for longer periods due to financial constraints, with 54% of young people still living at home.

The cost-of-living crisis, characterised by rising inflation, has pushed Gen Z to stay at home to save on rent, New York Post reported.

While living at home offers financial benefits, it poses challenges to Gen Z’s sex lives. Many struggle to find privacy and opportunities for intimacy, leading to stress and complications in their romantic relationships.

Sex is said to be a “stressful experience” for those living with their parents, as they must navigate around family members and be careful to be discreet.

Those who want to maintain an active sex life often resort to finding partners who have their own places or arrange to meet outside of their homes to ensure privacy.

This situation has led to amusing and sometimes awkward encounters when parents unexpectedly return home. It appears that hiding partners in closets did not go out of the window in the 50s after all.

While staying at home can be financially beneficial, it has affected Gen Z’s ability to explore their sexuality and engage in sexual experimentation during their early adulthood.
