With over 143-million followers, Senegalese social media star Khabane Lame has become the most followed account on TikTok.
Lame gained mass popularity on the social media platform with his quirky videos and, on 22 June, he became the most followed account, surpassing Charli D’Amelio.
The former factory worker joined TikTok two years ago after being retrenched at the start of the pandemic.
After losing his job, Lame turned to the video service to make videos to pass time, without knowing he would become the most popular content creator on the platform.
Lame’s videos show him making parody clips mocking viral videos, without saying a single word.
The 22-year-old was born in Senegal, but emigrated to Italy a year after he was born.
Despite living in the European country his entire life, he doesn’t have Italian citizenship.
The youngster has 143.8-million followers on his account, which has collaborations with some of the biggest celebrities in the world, including singer Ed Sheeran and footballer Kylian Mbappe.
Lame’s videos have amassed over 2.3-billion likes. Last October he had eight of the 25 most-liked videos on the platform.
Lame’s net worth is estimated at around R79-million, according to Entrepreneur.
