The family of a woman who was swept away by strong water at a low-lying bridge in Sandton on Saturday has yet to find their loved one.
The Johannesburg Emergency Management Services’s (EMS) Aquatic Rescue Unit has been working tirelessly in search of her.
The woman, whose car was engulfed by a flash flood while she was driving in Sunninghill, is suspected to have drowned.
EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo said the aquatic rescue team, working with SAPS and private entities, searched in the Jukskei River during the weekend. The teams were divided into three and focused on Dainfern, Steyn City and Monaghan Farm.
However, their search didn’t produce any results and they got together again on Tuesday morning to continue with the search.
Khumalo said the teams have actively been searching for the woman after she was reported missing to SAPS on Saturday.
On Monday and Tuesday, the EMS aquatic team resumed their search in Sunninghill.
Earlier on Tuesday, Khumalo said the search was continuing, although the weather was not favourable, as threatening clouds were gathering.
“No recovery has been made. EMS urges the residents of Johannesburg to remain alert as thunderstorms are expected to continue this week.”
On several days the search operation had to be called off due to rainy weather.
Khumalo and the EMS management urge residents to refrain from crossing low-lying bridges as the rainy weather continues in most parts of the city.
