Seagulls secure European football

A point against champions Manchester City on Wednesday was enough for Brighton to seal a top six spot with all eyes now on the relegation battle come the final day of the Premier League season.

A late first half goal from Julio Enciso cancelled out a Phil Foden opener at the Amex, with the 1-1 draw all Brighton needed in their penultimate game to secure Europa League football for next season.

While the title and top six races are already run ahead of the final day, there could still be a twist in the plot of the top four battle; and there will certainly be a lot on the line in terms of the hunt for survival.

Liverpool will have one eye on Manchester United on Thursday when the Red Devils take on Chelsea. And should the Blues pull off a win at Old Trafford, Fulham would need to do the same while Liverpool would have to beat Southampton on Sunday.

While the chances of Jurgen Klopp’s side are minimal, the permutations for survival in the blue half of Merseyside certainly present a lot more pressure.

Of Everton, Leeds and Leicester, two sides will join Southampton in relegation to the Championship.

Everton just need a win over Bournemouth to survive, while Leicester will hope that Sean Dyche’s side drop points and they beat West Ham to ensure Premier League football next season.

For Sam Allardyce’s Leeds, a win at home to Tottenham is mandatory while results at Everton and Leicester must also go their way if they are to extend their three-year stay in the league.

All ten final games of action kick off at 5 pm on Sunday.
