Former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg has admitted to abusing his wife over five years.
The 32-year-old pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Monday to harassing Gillian Hogg between 2019 and 2024, including sending her over 200 text messages in just a few hours despite her asking him to stop.
The court heard he would track his wife’s movements and that she feared his anger, especially after he drank with teammates. His messages once caused her to have a panic attack.
His lawyer said Hogg accepts his actions were criminal but claims he didn’t mean to be abusive. The couple are getting divorced.
Hogg, who now plays in France for Montpellier, was one of Scotland’s best players and their top try scorer.
He played his last game for Scotland in March 2023 and also played for the British and Irish Lions.
He will be sentenced on 5 December.
