  • Researchers at Stellenbosch University say that too much stress will damage your brain cells and make it hard to think.
  • Scientists say natural chemicals in Rooibos tea protect the brain while the simple routine of making it calms the body.

Many people struggle to focus and feel tired during the day. Scientists say this is a growing problem caused by stress and having to process too much information.

Researchers from Stellenbosch University and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology are studying simple ways to solve this problem.

They are looking at how Rooibos tea might protect the brain and help people think better.

Professor Ben Loos from Stellenbosch University said stress hurts the brain.

He said it causes swelling and damages brain cells. This makes it hard for people to remember things and make good choices.

He said too much pressure overloads the brain, leaving people feeling tired and unable to focus.

Rooibos tea has natural chemicals that protect brain cells from this damage. These chemicals also help the cells make energy.

Dr Taskeen Docrat from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology said the tea supports brain chemicals used for learning and memory.

She said it helps the body manage the stress that destroys cells.

The researchers are also looking at how the simple act of making and drinking tea helps people.

They say taking a break to make tea calms the body and lowers stress hormones.

This helps people feel more relaxed and gives them a sense of control over their day.

The scientists say they are still gathering evidence on the health benefits of the tea.

They hope that combining the natural chemicals in Rooibos with the calming habit of drinking it will help people cope with busy lives.
