A Limpopo traditional healer has been arrested and charged with the murder of Modjadji Thoka, who was killed and mutilated in Mokomene Village, Botlokwa.
Police investigations led to the arrest on Wednesday morning of the 30-year-old healer, who pointed out where he had buried the 18-year-old’s head.
The teenager’s mutilated body was found without her head, breast, and legs on 8 January.
She had been missing since 5 January after she reportedly left her home to buy airtime at a local tuck shop.
The family has delayed her burial, hoping to locate her missing limbs.
Speaking to Scrolla.Africa, the deceased’s uncle, Jeffery Thoka, said they are still waiting for police to formally inform them about the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of her head.
“We learned about the latest developments through social media platforms and media publications. At this point, we don’t know what to make of this, whether it is fake news or not,” he said.
The deceased’s mother, Ntseta Thoka, said they are not going to bury her daughter with some of her limbs still missing.
“The sangoma must tell the police what he has done with all my child’s body parts to allow us to offer her a dignified funeral.
“I want answers; I want to look him in his eyes as he explains what he intended to do with my daughter’s body parts. I am also pleading with the police and courts to ensure all the people linked to this murder are arrested and sent to jail to serve lengthy sentences,” she said.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspect is expected to appear before the Morebeng Magistrate’s Court soon and investigations are still underway.
