Salah returns to Liverpool

Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah is set to return to Liverpool for treatment of a leg injury he sustained at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

Despite the injury, there’s hope for his return to the tournament, potentially for the semi-finals, if Egypt manages to progress that far.

Salah was hurt during Egypt’s 2-2 draw against Ghana in Group B. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, admitting that Salah’s hamstring problem is serious, confirmed the forward’s return for rehabilitation.

Klopp highlighted that it is very rare for Salah to miss matches. He said if Egypt qualifies for the final and Salah recovers earlier, his return to Afcon is likely.

Egypt’s next game is against Cape Verde on Monday night, and a win would secure their spot in the knockout stages.

Initially, Egypt’s football association indicated that Salah would only play again in the tournament if Egypt made it to the quarter-finals on 2 or 3 February.

Egypt, a seven-time Cup of Nations champion, last won in 2010.

Salah, who made his international debut a year later, played key roles in the 2017 and 2021 editions where Egypt finished as runners-up.

In this tournament, Salah’s late penalty helped Egypt draw with Mozambique, avoiding a defeat in the opening match.
