Three members of the SA Tourism board tendered their resignations on Friday over the proposed R1 billion sponsorship deal with English Premier League soccer club Tottenham Hotspur.
ENCA reported that the three board members, Enver Duminy, Ravi Nadasen and Rosemary Anderson, resigned with immediate effect and that their resignations were received by tourism minister Lindiwe Sisulu.
The trio departs as SA Tourism has come under heavy scrutiny over its planned deal
The Daily Maverick first published news about it before it was conditionally approved this week.
South Africans and political parties did not take kindly to it, as South Africa is crippled by load shedding, unemployment and crime.
It has caused a national conversation, with politicians and citizens weighing in.
President Cyril Ramaphosa said the arrangement is unjustifiable.
Reacting to the pending deal, the Democratic Alliance (DA) said it is an insult to every South African.
An urgent meeting by Parliament to discuss the matter has been confirmed to take place on Tuesday 7 February, following DA pressure.
