- A buyer is ready to take over the KwaZulu-Natal club after it stopped playing matches in December due to money problems.
KwaZulu-Natal football club Royal AM will be sold next week unless owner Shauwn Mkhize can save it from a R40 million tax crisis.
A buyer has already been found for the PSL club, which hasn’t played since 29 December 2024 due to its money troubles.
A source close to the sale told Ilanga newspaper that the South African Revenue Service (SARS) will ask the court on Monday to approve selling the club.
“On Monday, the curator will submit in court that Royal AM has to be sold, and if they don’t find a buyer, they will liquidate the club,” the source said.
“Furthermore, the curator will recommend that the PSL not expel Royal AM immediately, but rather wait until a buyer is found. We have found a buyer, and they had a meeting on Friday.”
“Shauwn is fighting back to reclaim the club and prevent liquidation or a sale. She is determined to save the club she bought for her son, Andile Mpisane.”
The PSL has already stopped Royal AM’s monthly payments. However, PSL chairman Dr Irvin Khoza has been asked to give the club time to complete the sale.
Bloemfontein Celtic, which Mkhize bought and renamed Royal AM in 2021, may buy the club’s PSL spot after leaving the ABC Motsepe League.
The PSL is expected to announce the club’s future soon, as Mkhize fights to keep the team she bought for her son.
