Edouard Iordanescu’s side drew 1-1 to Slovakia, but took the top spot on goal difference.
The group was on a knife edge, as all four teams had 3 points going into the final matchday.
Romania and Belgium were slightly better than Ukraine and Slovakia on goal difference, leaving them in the qualifying spots, before both games.
Remarkably at half-time, Ukraine and Belgium were goalless while Slovakia and Romania had a goal each, meaning all sides were set to finish with exactly four points.
As it stood, Ukraine were bottom of the group, with the other teams going through to the knockouts, so the pressure was on them to get a result against Belgium, who have disappointed at the Euros so far.
Despite some good chances they lacked the end product to get the better of the Belgian keeper Koen Casteels.
Belgium, with the draw against Ukraine, finished second and will play France in the round of 16.
Conventionally, this game would make for exciting viewing, but both sides have left a lot to be desired in their attack as of yet.
Slovakia are one of the best third place teams and will await their opponent.
Romania will play one of those third place teams, having had an excellent tournament so far, no country would want to draw them in the knockout stages.
