Rivals beware: Rashford is back to his devastating best

Marcus Rashford has had one of the most dramatic careers in footballing history – and he’s still only 25.

Once upon a time, the attention of the sporting world was grabbed by a young Manchester lad who showed immense promise on the pitch.

Then off the pitch, Rashford became a household name after leading a national campaign to feed deprived children during the panic.

Now, Marcus Rashford boasts the best of both worlds and has become a lethal striker for club and country.

Rashford broke on to the scene as an 18-year-old, scoring five Premier League goals for the Red Devils in his debut 2015/16 season, including a brace against Arsenal on his debut.

Four years after that, he had his best league campaign — netting 17 times and registering eight assists.

But in the two seasons which followed, the exciting young forward endured a dramatic slump in form. Under the mentorship of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he looked lost – and his career was on the line.

When he barely featured for England at the EURO 2020 (held in 2021), fans began to question whether he would ever fulfill the potential he showed five years earlier.

Under Erik Ten Hag this season, however, Rashford has been at his absolute best.

His stoppage time brace after coming on off the bench against Charlton in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Tuesday, is the latest edition in the story of his important goals this campaign.

Rashford’s minutes-per-goal ratio is also at the highest it has ever been under Ten Hag, with the Englishman scoring one every 123 minutes.

That means he is now twice as deadly in front of goal as he was under Jose Mourinho, where he scored once every 250 minutes.

For England, 15 goals in 51 games is his current statistic; and following a good World Cup in Qatar, fans will be hoping he can only add to that when the qualifiers for the 2024 European Championships get underway later this year.

As well as ending child hunger, Rashford is also well-known for his contributions towards fighting racism and ending homelessness in the UK. He has received several awards for his actions.
