Local hip-hop star Sabo-X is shaking up the music scene with a hot new monthly event to help young rappers shine.
Thabo Twala, who performs as Sabo-X, will launch The Bombs and Everything Hip-Hop Experience in partnership with POME at Bahama Bar in Kwa-Thema on 6 March.
The event will run on the first Thursday of every month, giving up-and-coming artists a chance to perform alongside big names in the game.
But life wasn’t always easy for the rapper-turned-producer. “One of the challenges is not getting the support that you need from your loved ones when you starting out. They don’t really understand what this is,” he said.
Twala uses his music to show what real life is like in the townships.
His song Dope Dealing talks about how drugs have destroyed talented young people’s futures.
The Back to the City Festival, which featured over 100 artists, celebrated 18 years of hip-hop and 30 years of freedom.
Twala stood out in the festival’s “10K Challenge”, which helped unsigned artists get noticed through public votes.
