Restaurant workers protest against liquor lockdown

Waiters, restaurant and wine farm owners took to the streets on Wednesday in protest against the new alcohol ban.

The ban, and the lockdown rules, have destroyed many hospitality businesses.

The Restaurant Association of South Africa (Rasa) – which covers 800,000 jobs – organised the nationwide protest, which is being led in the Western Cape. The pictures above are from Stellenbosch.

The liquor industry says it lost more than 117,000 jobs from the first ban and R18 billion rand in revenue.
