Liverpool edged Chelsea 2-1 on super Sunday at Anfield as Arne Slot’s troops went back to the top of the Premier League table.
From possession to attempts and even the highest ever pass completion rate by an away side at Anfield, Enzo Maresca’s side looked in control.
But it would be Liverpool’s day, as Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock from the spot half an hour in.
After the break, Nicolas Jackson levelled matters to bring the Blues right back into the game. It would only take three minutes for Liverpool to reclaim their advantage, though, with man of the match Curtis Jones slotting home from a Salah cross.
The hosts ensured that this time there would be no slip ups on their return from the international break; with Slot’s side now winning 10 of their 11 games across all competitions this season — their most after that many games in a campaign since 1990.
Liverpool’s win may keep them at the summit, but Manchester City, too, got all three points to stay hot on their heels — even when it looked, for large parts, like a win was out of their grasp at Molineux.
Wolves scored first against the Citizens, with Jørgen Strand Larsen’s goal coming after just seven minutes. Pep Guardiola’s men fought back and got the equaliser through Josko Gvardiol’s curling strike before half-time.
Wolves held their resolve in the second period, until John Stones got the winner in controversial fashion with seconds of stoppage time to play.
City are now unbeaten in 31 league games, their longest ever unbeaten league run in their history.
