Red Devils bring Klopp’s FA Cup tenure to hellish halt

Manchester United beat bitter rivals Liverpool 4-3 in an FA Cup quarter final thriller at the Theatre of Dreams.

Football’s oldest cup competition sprinkled its fair share of magic on the weekend’s last eight ties, and few were as compellingly done as Sunday’s Old Trafford thriller.

Following Coventry City’s shock upset of Wolves and Manchester City and Chelsea’s progression to the semi-finals, all eyes were on Manchester as United hosted Liverpool.

Scott McTominay opened the scoring early on for Erik Ten Hag’s side before Jurgen Klopp’s men turned things around before the break courtesy of Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian became the first player to score in five consecutive away games against United, but it would be to little avail as Antony levelled matters late on to force extra time.

In the additional half hour, Harvey Elliott struck first to give the visitors yet another upper hand — but the home fans would surge their side on to another unforgettable comeback.

Marcus Rashford finished on 112 minutes; and when penalties loomed, Amad Diallo would find the back of the net in the last minute to send United through.

Klopp’s farewell tour will not include a treble. Instead, his FA Cup run concluded with a nightmarish defeat at the hands of the enemy.

While Liverpool will have their shot at some form of redemption with a league trip to the same ground, United will revel at the prospect of silverware with Coventry awaiting at Wembley in the next round.

Manchester City will face Chelsea in the other game, with ties scheduled for the 20th and 21st of April.
