Rassie Erasmus, the Springboks coach, has quietly divorced his wife, Nicolene, after 20 years of marriage.
The news came to light when Erasmus thanked his 83-year-old mother, Maria, instead of Nicolene, in his recent honorary doctorate acceptance speech from North-West University.
The divorce was confirmed by court records, with the case listed as N Erasmus suing J Erasmus in the Cape High Court on April 29, 2024.
Nicolene, a former nurse, was the complainant in the proceedings, making Rassie’s presence in court unnecessary.
Rassie’s lawyer, Frikkie Erasmus, declined to comment on personal matters, saying that his client was not in court on the mentioned date.
Despite the tight-lipped response from those close to Erasmus, sources within rugby circles confirmed that the couple had been living apart for some time.
Rassie’s inner circle, described as a “brotherhood,” has remained loyal and protective, making sure that details of the divorce did not leak out. However, the court order seen by YOU magazine confirmed the split.
The split already seemed on the cards when his biography (“Rassie”) hardly ever mentioned his wife and there are no photographs in the book of the two together.
Currently, Rassie and the Springboks are at a training camp preparing for upcoming matches against Wales, Ireland, and Portugal.
