Cassper Nyovest and NaakMusiq will temporarily drop their microphones to put on a pair of boxing gloves when they go toe-to-toe in a celebrity fight set for Sun City on Saturday.

Since the eagerly-awaited showdown was confirmed, the news has generated interest on social media.

Their popularity has fans eager to see who will be the king of the ring.

Nyovest, whose real name is Refiloe Phoolo, revealed this week that he lost 18kg in 12 weeks to show how serious he is.

“Have you seen me box? I’m an animal. I don’t think there is a celebrity that can beat me. I must knock him out,” he said at the press conference.

The singer said training for the bout taught him a lot about nutrition, training and the science of supplements.

“I had to ditch my favourite foods and alcohol in order to lose weight for the fight,” he added.

NaakMusiq, whose real name is Anga Makubalo, chose a modest approach when discussing the upcoming fight, as he only chose to post his training videos a week before the event.

“We decided to go with the strategy of not posting anything. Cass was comfortable. He knows what he is doing and has been doing it for quite some time. So we figured that I’m sure there are one or two videos that came out of me having started boxing,” said NaakMusiq.

“And those were quite the joke. Which we thought was a brilliant thing. Let us work behind the scenes, create a monster and reveal it on the night of the fight.”

The two musos said they plan to turn celebrity boxing into a big business.

This event is sponsored by Celeb City, with a red carpet hosted by Bontle Modiselle-Moloi.

It will be a three-day event running from 8 to 11 April. Tickets for the weekend range from R9,000 to R65,000 per person.
