One of Mzansi’s most influential female rappers, Moozlie, has decided to step back from Twitter because of all the “negative energy” on the platform.

Moozlie, whose real name is Nomuzi Mabena from Benoni in Gauteng, released a statement on Wednesday announcing her retirement from the platform, which has gained her over 470,000 followers since January 2010.

“If you’ve been following me on twitter for a while you may have noticed that I’ve been inactive for some time now,” she wrote on her profile.

“I made a decision to remove myself from the platform because I felt like it didn’t align with my personal views & I often found myself feeling disgruntled at the negative energy & direction a lot of the conversation would take.”

After the reported twitter bullying that allegedly led to the death of iconic actor Patrick Shai in January this year, many artists in Mzansi including Nasty C, AKA and Oscar Mbo have spoken out about their challenges with twitter users which have led to them thinking of leaving the platform in March.

But since then, Okmalumkoolkat has been the only artist who has managed to leave the platform for good. Since 24 December in 2020, the “Gqi’ hitmaker has left his over 380,000 followers stranded in the Twitter ether.

Meanwhile Moozlie, who became famous after winning the MTV VJ presenter Search in 2012, also made it clear that her twitter account will remain active for work purposes.

“I’ve therefore decided to allow my management team to post work related posts & communication on my behalf,” added Moozlie who will be turning 30 years on 22 September.
