President Cyril Ramaphosa took his campaign trail to the Eastern Cape on Sunday, where he attended a church service at St. John’s Apostolic Faith Mission in Cala.
Flanked by Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane and ANC chairperson Gwede Mantashe, Ramaphosa congratulated the congregants of the Mission for leading in women’s empowerment.
“Congratulations and thank you for the stand that your church has taken in the empowerment of women. As the president, I have made it my task that we will carry on the empowerment of women in everything we do and we want to lift women higher in our country,” Ramaphosa said.
Commemorating Mother’s Day, Ramaphosa thanked the mothers of the country for the role they have played in building the nation.
“We want to empower you so that you can keep building the nation,” he added.
He said the ANC is the only party that was formed in the church by church leaders.
“The churches have played a leading role in the formation of the ANC; there’s no other political organisation whose formation was led by churches,” he said.
He asked the church to pray for the ANC ahead of the most hotly contested election on 29 May.
