Proteas pacer Kagiso Rabada took his 300th test wicket in the first test against Bangladesh in Mirpur, but he insists he is more focused on helping his side to victory than he was on achieving this feat.
In his 65th test for South Africa, the 29-year-old became the third quickest South African to reach the milestone behind Dale Steyn and Alan Donald who did it 61 and 63 games respectively.
“It’s an honour to represent South Africa and to be on that list with all those amazing players,” Rabada said per The Citizen.
Rabada is also just the sixth Protea to take 300 plus wickets in the five-day format after Steyn, Donald, Shaun Pollock, Makhaya Ntini and Morne Morkel — but he insists that he was not thinking about it when he took to the field.
“When I came on to bowl this morning, I really wasn’t thinking about that wicket. I was thinking about how we’re going to win this Test match,” Rabada said.
“We lost the toss and were bowling first, so the first thing on my mind was ‘how are we going to get 10 wickets in this innings?’
“But everyone in the back of their minds plays for milestones and it was a relief. The way my teammates supported me, that really felt good, and I’ll never forget it. It was a special moment.”
