  • The African National Congress says Magibisela was a dedicated leader and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Police are offering a R60 000 reward for information that could help catch the people who murdered activist and African National Congress ward convenor Myolisi Magibisela.

Magibisela was shot dead in June 2025 inside his home in Makhaza, Khayelitsha. He had been working to fight extortion in the area, and his murder shocked the community.

Constable Ndakhe Gwala, spokesperson for the Western Cape South African Police Service, said the Serious Violent Crime detectives are still investigating the case.

“There is a R60 000 reward for anyone who can provide credible information that will lead to the identification of the suspects,” said Gwala.

Police are urging anyone who knows something about the murder to contact Detective Captain Lukhanyo Magadla on 082 411 3245 or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

A resident who asked not to be named said being an activist comes with risks.

“Activists challenge people who break the law, and those people don’t like it. Criminals want to be left alone while they terrorise us. I pray those who killed Magibisela are found and punished,” the resident said.

African National Congress Dullar Omar regional chairperson Ndithini Tyhido welcomed the police’s move.

“We are happy the police are offering a reward. It shows they are serious about this case,” said Tyhido.

He described Magibisela as a good leader who loved serving his community.

“He didn’t deserve to die like that. We urge anyone who knows something to speak out. We believe the police will eventually find those responsible.”
