- Two security guards, aged 34 and 41, were killed during a cash-in-transit robbery in Mamelodi East on Monday.

Two security guards were killed and a third wounded during a cash-in-transit robbery in Mamelodi East, Pretoria, on Monday, 7 September.
The Security Personnel Party of South Africa, known as SPPSA, has offered a R200,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and successful prosecution of those responsible.
The attack happened in Extension 16. Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said the suspects travelled in two vehicles, a white or cream Volkswagen Polo and a maroon Volkswagen Polo, and attacked security guards who were transporting cash.
The two guards killed were aged 34 and 41. A third guard was shot and taken to hospital.
A shootout followed between police and the suspects. A police vehicle was damaged, but no officers were hurt. The suspects also set a Mercedes-Benz alight, destroying it completely.
Police later found explosives underneath the cash-in-transit vehicle. The Explosives Unit was called in and safely removed the devices. Despite the attack, no cash was taken.
Two firearms belonging to the security company, a rifle and a 9mm pistol, were recovered at the scene.
A 21 year old bystander was arrested after Crime Intelligence and K9 Unit members followed up on information received. He was allegedly found with a rifle stolen from the scene and faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
Police have opened cases of two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, attempted cash-in-transit robbery and malicious damage to property.
SPPSA founder and president Sello Mashula condemned the attack and warned the public against going to crime scenes to collect scattered cash after a robbery, saying this is a criminal offence and puts people at risk, particularly because explosives may still be present.
Mashula welcomed the arrest of the 21 year old bystander.
Police say the investigation continues, with officers following up on information that could help identify and arrest the remaining suspects.
