- Queen Sihle kaMdluli addressed maidens in King Cetshwayo District Municipality over the weekend, warning that poor public behaviour could damage their reputations.
- This year’s Reed Dance is set for 13 September at eMashobeni Royal Palace, with several Zulu royal wives addressing maidens across KZN and Gauteng in the lead-up.
Queen Sihle kaMdluli, the fourth wife of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, has urged maidens to carry themselves with dignity in public, warning that poor behaviour could damage their reputation and standing in the community.
Queen kaMdluli, of eMashobeni Royal Palace, addressed maidens in King Cetshwayo District Municipality over the weekend, ahead of this year’s Reed Dance.
“You need to lead by example and maintain a good image in how you carry yourself in front of people. It is very important as a maiden to carry yourself with pride. I am saying this because I have travelled this road myself, through all the stages of being a maiden,” Queen kaMdluli said.
She addressed the maidens in siSwati, and many in attendance said they were moved, having heard her speak publicly for the first time.
This year’s Reed Dance is set to take place on 13 September at eMashobeni Royal Palace. Queen kaMdluli, affectionately known as Queen Mawewe, also addressed maidens in the City of eThekwini a few weeks earlier.
She joins several other royal wives preparing maidens for uMkhosi woMhlanga across KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, including Queen Ntokozo kaMayisela of kwaNkomonye Royal Palace, Queen Masesi kaMyeni of eMachobeni Royal Palace, and their mother-in-law, Queen Thandi maNdlovu of Linduzulu Royal Palace, following King Misuzulu’s announcement of the official dates.
