Rapper Megan Thee Stallion made a powerful statement for black women in a live television performance on Saturday night.
Singing her number one song Savage she stood to attention in front a statement across the stage: “Protect Black Women.”
Meg was guest starring on the show Saturday Night Live with actor and comedian Chris Rock.
She was protesting the killing of Breonna Taylor, a young black woman in the city of St Louis who was gunned down in her apartment by police.
The local attorney-general has decided not to press charges against the police.
Taylor was one of the victims of police violence who inspired the Black Lives Matter protests that spread across the United States this year.
But Meg’s protest was personal as well.
On 12 July, rapper Tory Lanez allegedly fired four shots at Megan after taking her to a party, with two bullets injuring her feet.
In the show, Meg quoted lines from the famous black activist Malcolm X: “The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected, neglected person in America is the black woman.”
