The South African women’s cricket team took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three match T20 International series against Ireland with a convincing 65-run win in Paarl on Sunday.
Batting first at Boland Park, the Proteas posted 201/5 in their 20 overs, with Faye Tunnicliffe scoring her maiden T20 international fifty.
Tunnicliffe (50) and Sune Luus (37) shared an opening stand of 78, while Dane van Niekerk’s explosive 41 off 19 balls propelled South Africa to a strong total.
In response, Ireland were restricted to 136/3, with Orla Prendergast scoring an unbeaten 51.
Aimee Maguire (3/43) and Prendergast (1/29) were the standout bowlers for Ireland, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Proteas from securing the series win.
Sunday’s victory came after an even bigger win in Cape Town on Friday, where the hosts first stamped their authority on the series with a 105-run thumping.
The teams will now head to Benoni for the final T20 on Wednesday, before competing in three one-day internationals.
The series win is a confidence booster for the Proteas, who will look to carry the momentum into a stacked summer schedule at home.
