Prince William joined young township players and Springbok heroes for a rugby coaching session in Cape Town as part of his Earthshot Prize Awards visit.

The Prince trained with kids from Ocean View, Masiphumelele and Langa alongside rugby legends Joel Stransky, Percy Montgomery, and Tendai “The Beast” Mtawarira.

“Great to be back in South Africa!” Prince William posted on Instagram. “These programmes use the power of sport to transform the lives of these amazing young people.”

Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis helped organise the event, which mixed sports with youth development.

William is in town for the fourth Earthshot Prize Awards on 6 November which will be hosted by Bonang Matheba.

Earthshot gives R22.7-million each to five winners who find new ways to help the environment.

Earlier, the Prince met 120 young people from Africa and South-East Asia at an Earthshot climate leadership event.

Prince William also met President Cyril Ramaphosa.

“I loved chatting with you today. What you are all doing is incredible,” William said after their meeting.

“You are the leaders. You are the people that are going to make a difference going forward. Your solutions and your impact are so important and so needed right now,” he said.
