In a bid to shift the focus to T20 leagues around the world, Dwaine Pretorius has announced a sudden decision to retire from international cricket.
The 33-year-old all-rounder has played three tests, 27 one-day internationals and 30 T20 internationals for South Africa, taking 77 wickets for his country in his six-year career.
Pretorius was in line to start for the Proteas at the ICC T20 World Cup last year, but he suffered an injury in the build-up to the competition.
“A few days ago, I made one of the toughest decisions of my cricketing career. I have decided to retire from all forms of international cricket,” Pretorius said in a statement.
“I am shifting my focus to T20 and other shorter formats for the rest of my career. Being a free agent will help me achieve the goal of being the best short-format player I can be. By doing this, I will be able to have a better balance in my career and family life.”
Pretorius currently plays for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, Welsh Fire in the Hundred as well as the Durban Super Giants in the all-new SA20, to name a few of his short-form endeavours.
