Porto have booted Juventus out of the UEFA Champions League after scoring a goal in extra time, winning the match and scoring 4-4 on aggregate.
Porto went into the tie with a 2-1 advantage from the home leg and looked set to secure that illustrious quarter-final spot after going 1-0 up through a Sergio Olivera penalty.
However, Porto striker Mehdi Taremi kicked the ball away in frustration which earned him a second yellow card and the striker was sent off just before halftime.
Andrea Pirlo’s Juventus side came flying out of the blocks in the second half with on-loan winger Federico Chiesa scoring two early goals.
Juventus, also known as ‘The Old Lady’ were in need of one more goal to advance but Olivera had the ball in the back of the net from a free kick which all but guaranteed Porto the victory.
A late goal from Juventus midfielder Adrian Rabiot made it a nail-biting finish, but it was too late for the Serie A champions.
Juventus, who are not in good form, are third in their domestic league, ten points behind leader Inter Milan with a game in hand. In the past three seasons, Juventus have been knocked out by Ajax, Lyon and now Porto, all fixtures fans of the club would have expected to win.
Andrea Pirlo said he didn’t fear that he might lose his job.
“I am the Juventus manager and I will work for a larger project which goes beyond this season,” he said.
The draw for the quarter finals of the competition will take place on 19th March.
