- Spokesperson Sthembiso Mshengu says Senzo Mchunu is caring for his grandchildren during special leave and preparing to face the Madlanga Commission.
- Churches held a National Prayer for Mchunu in Durban, where his brother and Bhinca Nation president Ngizwe Mchunu pledged their support.
Suspended police Minister Senzo Mchunu is spending his special leave looking after his grandchildren, his spokesperson says.
Sthembiso Mshengu made the comments at a National Prayer organised by churches for Mchunu in Durban.
Mshengu said the minister is also attending to matters at home and preparing to appear before the Madlanga Commission.
“This special leave has given him a chance to look after his grandkids. Also as a man he has to do some of the things that require a man’s attention at his home. He is also preparing himself to appear again before the Madlanga Commission,” Mshengu said.
Ngizwe Mchunu, President of the Bhinca Nation, pledged his support for the minister at the prayer.
“I don’t care about politics or anything but I support Senzo Mchunu because I believe that this situation is going to pass. He is our family and will continue to support him no matter what,” Ngizwe said.
Senzo Mchunu’s brother, Bishop Bhekimpi Mchunu, said the family trusts the process of the Madlanga Commission.
Bhekimpi said the minister is innocent until proven otherwise.
