Police officers have locked up Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams in Cape Town. Officers took the National Coloured Congress leader into custody on Tuesday. This happened after he failed to hand himself over to police as they had agreed.

National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said Fadiel Adams faces charges of fraud and blocking the course of justice.

These charges are tied to the murder of former ANC Youth League leader Sindiso Magaqa. Investigators say Fadiel Adams reached out to a convicted hitman. They claim he did this while the sensitive murder probe was at a critical stage.

A special police unit called the Political Killings Task Team is running the investigation. This unit handles murders tied to politics.

Fadiel Adams says he did nothing wrong. He said he was willing to work with the police. He believes top officers are punishing him because of an old fight. He named KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi as part of this conflict.

The politician claims the special unit is treating him unfairly and cooking up the charges against him. He asked why police used such heavy resources to catch him. He said he is not accused of a violent crime.

Fadiel Adams suspects the arrest is linked to classified police documents he found. He used this secret information to open criminal cases against police officers.

Lawyers for Fadiel Adams are taking the legal fight to the Western Cape High Court. His legal team plans to question whether the arrest and the warrant are legal.
