Police dismiss rumour that AKA murder suspects arrested

Police in KwaZulu-Natal have dismissed reports that suspects in the murder case of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes have been arrested.

KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said “unconfirmed” reports about the arrest have been doing the rounds and are misleading the public.

Reports across several publications suggested that three men were arrested on Sunday in Cape Town in connection with the brutal murder.

The men in question were transported to Durban to make an appearance in court.

“The reports had the potential to put the lives of the people purported to have been arrested at risk,” Netshiunda said.

“Police appeal for space and time to investigate the matter without undue pressure and unwarranted scrutiny from armchair investigators, analysts and faceless so-called sources who claim to be close to the investigations.”

Netshiunda added that the police will release updates in regard to the case as they happen.

The Forbes family released a statement on Wednesday asking fans to “mourn responsibly”.

“We are aware of the growing public discontent related to the progress which has been made in the investigation.

“However, as a family, we are deeply concerned that irresponsible actions, accusations and assumptions may cause more harm than good,” the family said in a statement posted on social media on Wednesday.

The family added a warning to the public about fake accounts that are requesting money for donations or investments.

“We have not opened any donation accounts or requested any investments,” the statement added.
