Members of the Chelsea squad are “regretting” signing long-term contracts with the club because Mauricio Pochettino’s tactics are dividing the players, according to reports.
The Blues have spent more than £1-billion (about R100-billion) since former owner Roman Abramovich sold the club in 2022.
New signings have done little to prevent the club’s downfall, though, with the team dropping to the bottom half of the Premier League table.
Many of the new arrivals committed to earning big money on seven and eight-year contracts, but according to The Athletic, there has been serious “regret” from a number of big names in attendance at Stamford Bridge.
Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Mykhailo Mudryk are some of the players whose futures are already being questioned, even though they only recently signed with the club.
Several players are said to be upset by the minimal tactical advice offered by coaching staff, with the report adding that there is a “toxic mix” and a clash of visions between players and co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.
There has also been speculation about the future of Pochettino’s job. However, he is expected to stay until the end of the season, by which time he will have 12 months remaining on his contract.
