Pitch invader speaks out after Chiefs vs Sundowns game

By Everson Luhanga

Kabelo Motang became the first pitch invader during Saturday’s match between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium.

Kabelo had traveled from Germiston to Soweto to see the game. He ran onto the pitch, targeting the referee, but security quickly removed him.

During halftime, Scrolla.Africa spoke to Kabelo in the stands.

He said the referee’s calls were unfair and that a penalty awarded to Sundowns had demoralised the Chiefs players.

“Sundowns is getting favours from match officials,” he said.

Kabelo wasn’t aware that more goals were still coming for Sundowns.

He wasn’t the only one to invade the pitch; another man wearing an Orlando Pirates jersey was also removed. Objects were thrown onto the field as well, leading to more security and SAPS officers being deployed in the second half.

Chiefs ultimately suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat in the Carling Cup quarter-finals.
