Tsakani residents are demanding that the Department of Health intervene and remedy the deplorable service at Calcot Dlepu Clinic in Tsakane.
This is after an angry and frustrated patient lashed out and doused three nurses with urine last Friday afternoon.
In the video, the nurses are seen sitting in the canteen eating as the angry and frustrated patient flings urine from a bottle at their lunch party.
He says he had been waiting to be attended to since 9 am and was still not being attended to at 3.30 pm.
“Are you supposed to act first before you attend to us?
“We are not stupid. Or is it because we are not paying for the services that we have to endure this treatment?” protests the patient.
He continues to dose the nurses with urine, adding that their behaviour is disgusting.
A resident in the area, Papi Masango, said the attitude of the nurses and other staff members towards patients leaves much to be desired.
“Patients are forced to wait for hours to be attended to while nurses drag their feet, sitting and gossiping in their office, and when we inquire we are told to wait our turn.
“They go for long tea breaks and when they finally return, they continue to drag their feet until it is their turn to go for lunch,” he told Scrolla.Africa.
Another resident and patient, Nomasondo Mtshali, said collecting chronic medication at the clinic is a nightmare.
“We have to make sure that we don’t have anything to attend to for the day because we know we will only be attended to [by the nurses] late in the afternoon or be told to return the following day as they are knocking off.
“Many patients in the area are using facilities in neighbouring areas to avoid the poor service,” she said.
She said highlighting the incident would hopefully get the Department of Health to remedy the situation.
MEC of Health and Wellness in Gauteng, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, condemned the patient’s actions, adding that it is inhuman to spray staff members with human waste.
“It doesn’t matter how frustrated we are, we cannot turn to such extreme measures.
“There are different routes in the clinic and the department where patients can lodge their complaints, and they should be used,” she added.
