DJ Maphorisa sparks a buzz online after he posts a picture of himself wearing a R1.2 million Rolex Day-Date 40 and his gold OVI grill.
The watch is made from 18-carat yellow gold. It shines even more as part of his fashion shoot with Tshepo Jeans.
Maphorisa shows the watch and grill together in the picture. He also wears four Van Cleef & Arpels clover bracelets that each cost between R150,000 and R350,000.
On his face, he has a pair of Louis Vuitton Cyclone sunglasses that cost around R15,000.
Rolex says the Day-Date 40 uses its own calibre 3255 movement. It is known for its precision and 70-hour power reserve. The watch shows the day and date, and the one Maphorisa wears has diamonds.
Rolex no longer sells directly in South Africa. Many people now buy the brand from trusted resellers. One authorised seller lists the same yellow-gold model at about R820,800. International prices are around $52,000. Other trusted sellers include Charles Greig and Shemer Jewellers.
The picture stands out because Maphorisa pairs the bold Rolex with his gold grill. His look mixes music, fashion and luxury in one strong statement.
