Pearl Maseko quits Ukhozi after fight with colleague

By Sandile Mdletshe

SABC’s Ukhozi FM programme manager Pearl Maseko-Binqose has quit her job after clashing with a colleague.

Maseko, who started at Ukhozi FM in January 2023, reportedly faced difficulties due to a colleague interfering with her work and criticising her in front of others.

“Since Pearl joined the station, one of her colleagues made it hard for her to do her job. They interfered a lot and took over tasks that belonged to Pearl. In meetings, they made sure everyone knew she was in charge and made changes whenever she wanted. Pearl had no choice but to quit to avoid falling into depression,” said a source.

Another insider said that the SABC had to move the colleague to their Auckland Park office in Johannesburg because of her conflict with Maseko and other radio presenters.

This isn’t the first time Ukhozi FM has faced such issues. Former programme manager Zandile Tembe also left the station due to similar problems with the same colleague.

Maseko’s resignation letter has already been submitted.

“Pearl didn’t even come to work on Monday. She’s had enough of the toxic environment,” said another source.

“That colleague treats the staff like children, doing whatever they want and never facing consequences.”

SABC’s media relations manager, Mmoni Seapolela, confirmed Maseko’s resignation.

“The SABC can confirm that Pearl Maseko-Binqose has resigned. The SABC thanks her for her contribution and wishes her well in the future,” she said.

Attempts to get a comment from Maseko proved fruitless as messages were ignored.

The colleague, whose name is known to Scrolla.Africa, directed all queries to the SABC spokesperson.
