- Nikkia’s parents abandoned bail application after new charges added with father facing rape, murder and child abuse charges.
- The 32-year-old father and 39-year-old pregnant mother will remain in custody until the case returns to court on 9 October.
Parents of the murdered four-year-old Nikkia have abandoned their bail application after new charges were added.
Last week, the matter was postponed to allow the state time to add more charges and for the accused to prepare for their formal bail application.
The 32-year-old father is facing charges of rape, sexual assault, murder, child abuse and defeating the ends of justice.
Meanwhile, the 39-year-old pregnant mother is facing charges of murder and failure to report the abuse of a minor.
Speaking to Scrolla.Africa outside court, the paternal grandfather said he wants to know what happened to his granddaughter as “no one is saying anything to me”.
“This is hard and difficult for me and what happened shouldn’t have happened because my son was raised in the right manner,” said the teary grandfather.
He further asked that the family be allowed time to grieve his granddaughter.
Meanwhile, on Sunday the Eldos community gathered at the Don Mateman Hall in celebration of the little girl’s life.

John Vaaltyn, the little girl’s maternal uncle, said they are broken by the cruelty that led to his niece’s death.
“I have cried and can’t cry anymore because something is telling me to be strong, even though this tragedy is not the first in our family after the death of my sister,” said Vaaltyn.
He further slammed the accused, saying, “the people who commit this act are dogs and pigs. As a father I will not do that to my own daughter.”
The duo will remain in custody while the matter is postponed to 9 October 2025.
