Orlando Pirates coach injured while helping car crash victims

  • The crash happened on the R21 highway after Pirates returned from their 3-0 win over Chippa United in Gqeberha on Sunday night.
  • Ouaddou and his staff were helping at a road accident when a Nissan NP200 smashed into stationary cars, leaving them seriously injured.

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and five members of his technical team are in hospital after being struck by a car on the R21 highway.

The accident happened on Sunday night while the team was returning from Gqeberha after their 3-0 victory over Chippa United.

According to the club, the coach and his colleagues got off the team bus to help victims of a crash involving two vehicles. While they were giving assistance, a Nissan NP200 crashed into the stationary cars, hitting the group.

All six men suffered serious injuries and were rushed to hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

In a statement, Pirates said their priority is the wellbeing of the coach and staff. “The club has made arrangements to ensure that the affected individuals and their families receive all the necessary support during this difficult time.”

The club has promised to update supporters once more information about their conditions is available.
