Opposition parties are up in arms over the decision of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to re-open voter list registration.
The IEC announced that they will re-open the submission of candidates in order to allow parties to submit their candidate list and the parties are heading to court to block the decision.
This has led to the outcry of the opposition parties who accused the IEC of giving the ANC special treatment.
Some parties have the view that this decision was a plan by the IEC to give the ANC a second chance to submit their list after it missed the first deadline.
The IFP reminded the IEC that in 2011 they missed the deadline but they were never given such a chance.
Mkhuleko Hlengwa said even the NFP of Zanele KaMagwaza-Msibi had the same problem but the IEC refused to give them another chance to submit their candidates.
DA leader, John Steenhuisen said that the DA has approached the Constitutional Court to block the IEC from going ahead with the opening of the candidate registration ahead of the upcoming local government elections. They want the IEC decision declared invalid and unconstitutional.
