- Joe Ferrari Sibanyoni says as a man of God he will not press charges against Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala for an alleged assassination attempt.
- Prosecutors claim Sibanyoni was shot in 2022 in Pretoria and linked Matlala to the attack during his bail hearing for another case.
Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe Ferrari Sibanyoni says he will not open a case against alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala for a failed hit on his life.
Speaking in Durban before the Santaco KZN elective conference this week, Sibanyoni said his faith prevents him from taking action.
“I am the man of God. I won’t open any case against Matlala. I am a devoted Christian, therefore God will deal with him when the time is right,” he told journalists.
The alleged attempt on Sibanyoni’s life was raised in court last month during Matlala’s bail application in Alexandra. Matlala is facing charges for the attempted murder of actress and influencer Tebogo Thobejane in 2023.
Prosecutors told the court Sibanyoni was shot outside Centurion Golf Estate in Pretoria on 10 August 2022. They claimed Matlala arranged for the BMW used by the gunmen to be stored at his girlfriend’s house.
The state also said Sibanyoni had a conflict with a man named Msibi, who was protected by Matlala’s private security company. Prosecutors suggested this link may have been behind the attack.
Matlala has denied all the allegations in court. He has earned the nickname “the Cat” for his survival and alleged role in a string of violent incidents.
