Bafana Bafana coach Molefi Ntseki promised a better performance for his side against Sudan in the Africa Cup of Nations Group C qualifier. This all important encounter for both sides will be held at Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman, Sudan at 6pm on Sunday.
Bafana need a single point to book their place in the next year’s showpiece in Cameroon. Ntseki said they are going there for maximum points.
“We have a very important match against Sudan. We are going there to win, not a draw,” said Ntseki.
In their game against Ghana on Thursday night, Bafana were wasteful in front of goals. They could have easily won the match and taken firm command of the group.
They left for Sudan on Friday morning and they are expected to have a feel of the pitch before the match. Ntseki also said he had a few things he would need to work on before Sunday’s clash.
“We need to be lethal in front of goals. Against Ghana we could have easily won the match. We wasted a lot of scoring chances – especially in the first half.”
Bafana’s result on Thursday saw them remain in second place with 10 points and they share the same number of points with leaders Black Stars. Sudan are in third, just a point behind Bafana and Ghana.
Ntseki said South Africa goes through if they draw. Sudan needs to win. “It’s for them to come at us for any chance to qualify. But we too have to play our game and be better than we were against Ghana,” said Ntseki.
The coach also added that team doctors will work on Percy Tau. The forward got a knock in Ghana’s clash that saw him go to the break limping.
But the Brighton man returned in the second half and got that all important equalising goal. Ntseki said they will assess him before giving him a run in Sudan.
