PICK OF THE SPORT: After 28 days and 64 matches, the Fifa World Cup final has arrived – with only two teams still standing: Argentina and France. Who will be the Champions of the World?
There is no stage bigger, no game grander and no moment more memorable than the World Cup final.
And on Sunday the 2022 champion will be crowned after a gruelling showpiece in Qatar.
Argentina were the first side to book their spot in the final after cruising past Croatia in the semi-final on Tuesday night.
France then got the better of Morocco, to put themselves in consecutive finals after winning the trophy four years ago.
The reigning champions won 2-0 against the North Africans on Wednesday night.
If France emerge victorious on Sunday evening, they will become the first nation since Brazil in 1962 to win back-to-back World Cups.
Argentina are looking to win the trophy for the first time since 1986. The South Americans have made it to two finals since then but came up short on both occasions.
Lionel Messi and his teammates will be hoping the third time will be the charm when they go head-to-head with France at the Lusail Stadium.
Close to 90,000 fans will be inside the stadium to witness history being written but billions more will be watching around the world in what is the most watched sporting event.
Around 3.5 billion people are set to tune in on Sunday to witness either Messi or Kylian Mbappe lift that illustrious crown.
However, before that there will be one more fixture: Croatia will take on Morocco for that third-place prize.
The playoff is often down-played for its “lack of importance”, but Morocco will be raring to get their hands on that bronze medal.
The Atlas Lions became the first African country to reach the World Cup final four. Winning the bronze medal will only add to their achievement.
Croatia, on the other hand, may not be as motivated, given they lost out in the final four years ago and were now booted out in the semi-final.
The golden ball and golden boot awards are also on the line with both Messi and Mbappe tied on five goals each.
The World Cup final will kick off at 5pm on Sunday evening when a winner will be crowned. All the action can be watched live on DStv channel 202.
