Not-so-funny comedian Mr Bundu gets ten years

Ntambudzeni Rasendedza, popularly known as Mr Bundu, was once a much sought after comedian but that stopped after he found himself on the wrong side of the law.

Bundu’s woes started back in 2019 when he battered his wife and was subsequently arrested for the crime.

He has since been in prison awaiting trial.

Despite numerous reports indicating that Bundu had been released from prison while awaiting sentencing he did in fact remain under custody until his ruling.

Bundu has been in and out of the court for the past two years and his case was finalised on Wednesday when the Sibasa Regional Court sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment.

He was convicted on a count of attempted murder, kidnapping, and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The first incident happened in August 2019, when Bundu assaulted his wife Tshifhiwa Nedididi with a wooden stick and electric cable, he further dripped burning plastic all over her body and locked her inside his house for two weeks.

She was not allowed outside the house during that time and was forced to use a bucket as a toilet.

The second incident happened when the couple were coming from a party. Bundu is said to have hit the victim with a big stone, breaking her leg, tearing off her clothes and leaving her naked.

Outside court, the victim’s father Godfrey Nedididi was overjoyed after the ruling.

“This has been a long journey and at times we felt like the justice system was failing us but at long last justice has prevailed,” he said.

“We are content and relieved with the sentence even though it took such a long time. We feel the sentence will send a strong warning to others who feel they are above the law.”
