Manchester City and Real Madrid progressed to the Uefa Champions League quarter finals with positive home results on Wednesday.

The Citizens picked up a 3-1 win over Copenhagen at the Etihad to register a 6-2 aggregate scoreline in their title defending season.

Pep Guardiola’s side have now won 28 of their last 30 home games in the competition, including their last 12 on the bounce.

They are only the second side in history to go over 30 consecutive home games without losing in the competition, after Barcelona did it between 2013 and 2020.

Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez gave City a two-goal advantage after just nine minutes before Erling Haaland got the third on the brink of half-time.

The Norwegian has now had more shots (34) in this season’s Champions League than any other player. He has also taken his tally of total competition goals up to 41 in 37 games, the same amount as Sergio Aguero.

At the Bernabeu, matters were not as easy for Real Madrid, who came up against a determined Leipzig outfit.

Los Blancos went ahead through Vinicius Junior on 65 minutes, but Willi Orban took just three minutes to level matters for the visitors on the night.

The affair was well-balanced, with Real edging the possession while Leipzig created more opportunities.

No further goals in the final quarter, however, meant that the hosts would win 2-1 on aggregate to book their place in the last eight.
