The last time Sergio Ramos and Mohammed Salah met was in the EUFA’s Champions League final in 2018 and it didn’t end well for Liverpool or their Egyptian forward.
Salah was forced off the field after 30 minutes after he was badly fouled by Ramos, who fractured his collarbone. Liverpool lost that match 3-1.
Salah might have felt it was a chance to inflict payback on Ramos when the much anticipated clash takes place at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano in Madrid on Tuesday.
Unfortunately for the Egyptian, Madrid have announced that their captain Ramos has suffered a muscle injury, with the centre-back now expected to miss a month including both meetings with Liverpool.
Madrid are already without Dani Carvajal, Eden Hazard, Toni Kroos and Fede Valverde for at least the opening tie.
Meanwhile, Manchester City will host stubborn Borussia Dortmund at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday. The Citizens will hope that their fine form in the English Premier League will help them overcome the Germans.
Coach Pep Guardiola is expected to call back John Stones, IIkay Gundogan, and Phil Foden who were on the bench when City won 2-0 against Leicester City over the weekend. Guardiola insists he needs to keep changing his side to ensure they avoid burnout.
The likes of Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero are expected to play an important role in this match knowing that anything less than a win could spell disaster for them.
