Jacob Zuma’s loyal backers have been gearing up to welcome back Zuma to his Nkandla homestead with a show-stopping bash – but his family is refusing to allow any events for the time being.
His younger brother Khanya said the family is putting the brakes on doing a welcome ceremony for Zuma.
“I spoke to Jacob and he said he is not in a good space to do a ceremony for now. But we are not blocking anyone from doing events to welcome him back in their own places,” said Khanya.
Khanya, who lives just outside the fence of Zuma’s house, said his brother is at Nkandla.
“He is here at Nkandla. We are happy to have him back at home. We hope that his legal trials and tribulations are ending now.”
Zuma was released from the Estcourt prison two weeks ago on medical parole by his long-time backer Arthur Fraser, the outgoing National Commissioner of the Correctional Services.
He had served just two months of his 15-month prison sentence after he was arrested for defying two court orders that told him to appear at the state capture commission of inquiry.
Zuma’s nephew, Inkosi Simphiwe Zuma, said he is elated that Msholozi is back.
However, he asked the family to be given some privacy.
“We would like to have some time as a family to plan the way forward,” said Simphiwe.
Zuma has a string of legal battles, including his Arms Deal case, still to face.
Judge Piet Koen of the Pietermaritzburg High Court will rule on 26 October on Zuma’s application to have state prosecutor advocate Billy Downer removed from the case.
