SABC announced on Wednesday that Somizi Mhlongo will be taking voluntary leave from his slot on Metro FM amid allegations of abuse from his husband, Mohale Motaung.
The allegations have surfaced just a year and a half since actor, Idols SA judge and Metro FM’s The Bridge co-host Mhlongo tied the knot with Motaung in a lavish wedding ceremony.
The occasion was exclusively broadcast on his reality show, Living the Dream with Somizi, which continues to be aired weekly on Mzansi Magic.
But now, what was dubbed in the celebrity gossip columns as the ‘wedding of the decade’ is the very moment which has led to Somizi’s downfall.
Motaung alleged to Sunday World that Somizi has been abusive ever since the leadup to their televised ‘fairytale’ wedding.
Mohale discusses the allegations in draw-dropping detail in a recorded interview which took place between him and the producers of Living the Dream with Somizi.
Motaung said that he was “afraid” of Mhlongo when they exchanged vows at the wedding.
Sunday World approached Mhlongo for comment but he did not respond by the time the article went to print.
SABC the statement announcing Mhlongo’s departure, SABC condemned all forms of domestic abuse.
“The SABC can confirm that @METROFMSA management met with Mr. Somizi Mhlongo and he has requested to take some time off from work. Management has granted Mr. Mhlongo permission to do so.”
