People were told not to wear black but rather bright, traditional clothing for Thabiso Sikwane’s memorial service on Friday morning.

The popular broadcaster passed away on 31 August, aged 50.

Her voice was featured on radio stations such as Voice of Soweto, SAfm, Power FM and Kaya FM, where she used to host the station’s breakfast show with David O’Sullivan and comedian Jason Goliath.

Her ex-husband, Thato “DJ Fresh” Sikwane, said she likely died from a heart-related issue, although the official cause has not been confirmed.

The memorial service was held at 3C Ministries Church in Irene, Centurion, with a cremation to follow.

Her childhood friend, Dr Jowie Mbengo, said Sikwane always found a reason to laugh.

“Even when we thought there was nothing to be happy about. Even in her last days, Thabiso would find a reason to laugh,” said Mbengo.

Sikwane was married to DJ Fresh for 20 years and leaves three children behind.
