Night of slaughter in Inanda

Three people were shot and killed in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday.

KZN Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the incident and said the police have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects.

They shot and killed three people and attempted to kill another in the Nhlungwane area in Inanda on the same night.

Colonel Netshiunda said police responded to reports of a shooting on Mpunzi Road in the area.

When the police arrived, they found two bodies lying on the road, one of a man believed to be in his early 40s and another of a 24-year-old woman with multiple gunshot wounds. They were declared dead at the scene.

“A few metres away from the first scene, the body of a man believed to be 50 years old was found dead inside his cottage room. He had also been shot. Shots were fired at his neighbour but he survived unharmed,” he said.

Colonel Netshiunda said information police had at this stage suggested that an unknown number of suspects shot a man and a woman and then moved to a nearby house. There they demanded keys for a minibus taxi from the female occupants of the house.

“The females escaped unharmed and the suspects took the spare key for the taxi. The same suspects are believed to have continued to the cottages down the road where they shot the third victim and took the original keys before driving off with the minibus taxi. The minibus taxi was found abandoned in the Ntuzuma area.”

Colonel Netshiunda said earlier on Monday evening, a man was shot and killed a few metres from where the man and the woman were killed. It is not yet clear if the incident is linked to the triple murder.
